The main advantage of the released version 1.1 is its progress in two key characteristics: overall performance and the proportion of successfully solved cases. LGS 3D 1.1 is almost twice as fast as version 1.0 when running on a reference test base of several thousand industrial scenarios. The ability of LGS 3D to solve test cases with complex objects like cylinders, circles, curves and surfaces has been also improved.
Another advantage of the new version is the additional modes of dimensional constraint measurement. For instance, the distance to a circle, cylinder or sphere could be measured to its center or centerline as well as to its boundary. By using such additional options like those initially implemented in LGS 3D 1.0, alignments, orientations and help points an application can be specified in a more flexible way which particular positioning of objects is required in each specific case.
All LEDAS customers get LGS 3D version updates free of charge within their current License Agreements. The interested in LGS 3D constraint solver companies may request the evaluation package for internal testing and to check the feasibility of LGS 3D use in their company from Sales and Marketing Department: sales@ledas.com.
About LGS 3D
LGS 3D is a C++ class library that runs under Windows 2000 and XP (versions for Linux, FreeBSD, and AIX platforms are available under request). It can be integrated (via its API written in C) into a broad range of software applications. A sample test application for LGS 3D called Lege'n'd 3D is also available within the Evaluation version of LGS 3D. It was created with the Open CASCADE open-source framework. The Lege'n'd 3D application can be used to test the entire functionality of the LGS 3D without any integration of the solver into other software packages. A set of representative examples for Lege'n'd 3D is also supplied.
LEDAS Geometric Solver 3D supports creation and modification of the geometric models by means of (explicit or implicit) constraints. Typical geometric objects are points, lines, circles, planes, cylinders, spheres, arbitrary curves, surfaces and swept surfaces. Objects can be fixed in an absolute coordinate system or with respect to each other. Set of geometric constraints includes logical constraints between geometric entities (like coincidence, parallelism, tangency, etc.), dimensional constraints (that specify the required values for given distances, angles, radii). LGS 3D moves and rotates objects to positions where all constraints are satisfied trying to perform minimal possible transformations of initial configuration. Other functions are usual for CAD - 'move under constraints' and diagnostics of over- and under-defined parts of a model.
